Described as fresh, clean and spicy, this essential oil works well on disfunctions of the digestive tract and on poor appetite. It can cause a mild feeling of euphoria.
Schnaubelt says, "In all of aromatherapy there is perhaps no oil more effective than cypress oil to counteract an infection of either the throat, nose, or bronchi in its early phase." It's great also for disinfecting and deodorizing a room.
This oil has a wonderful pepperminty aroma. It's mucolytic and therefore good for upper respiratory infections. It's cooling and refreshing. Because of the ketone content, Schnaubelt says it is not for pregnant women or children under the age of 10.
This is the Eucalyptus scent that most people recognize. It works well on flu, the common cold and bronchitis and is a good expectorant. From personal experience, it can irritate the mucous membranes if used undiluted due to its high oxide content.
This is, for me, softer and lighter than the globulus type and I use it a lot in my breathing and respiratory blends at hospice. It's also a terrific room disinfectant.
Good for muscle cramps, digestive tract (regulates smooth muscle) and, according to Monika Haas, is effective on PMS and estrogen insufficiency. It's good for loss of appetite and has a laxative effect for constipation. I use it in my hospice constipation blend and it's a staff favorite for patient use. The Prices say that "its structural similarity to catecholemines (adrenalin, noradrenalin, dopamine) may help to explain its ephedrine-like bronchodilator action..."
Combined with essential oils containing high 1,8 cineole content, it's great for the respiratory system. Antibacterial and antiviral.
As you would expect, it's sweet and woodsy. Good expectorant, antiviral. Blends well with other needles oils. Helps prevent viral infections and flu.
Clears the air and freshen any room. Smells like Christmas trees and the deep forest.
One of the biblical oils, it works on cell regeneration and strengthens the immune system. It can be used for depression. The Egyptians believed it elevated the mind.
